Chapter 5 & 6 : A Life on the Edge

PINKIE’S PLACE*
Beauty and Austin, are trying Pinkie’s line, but it isn’t connecting.
“She’s nowhere to be found” Ivan informed, entering the house.
“Did you go to Aurelio’s grave?” Mrs Eloise asked, and he gave a nod.
Mr Evan isn’t at home.
“Calm down, She’s fine, okay?. Just be positive” Austin comforted Beauty, and she gave a nod.
BACK AT THE BEACH*
Pinkie is a pretty bad swimmer, so she can’t save herself from drowning. She doesn’t even want to.
“I’m coming to you, Aurelio” She said in her head.
Her eyes were slowly closing then she sighted a body in the water.
THE BROOKS MANSION*
“Where is Lexi?” Liam muttered, climbing down the stairs.
“Have you seen Lexi around?” He asked a maid.
“Not at all, Sir” The maid replied with a bow.
“Okay”.
She bowed shortly before leaving.
“Don’t you think we should involve the police?” Mrs Brooks said fearfully.
“No wait a bit, mom. It’s raining heavily”
“I don’t care!”
“I need my daughter back!” She burst out in tears.
“Mom….” He hugged her.
BACK AT PINKIE’S PLACE*
“What if she tried to….” Austin whispered into Beauty’s ear.
“Suicide?!” Beauty screamed, making everyone’s eyes widened.
Well, this isn’t the first, second, third or even the fifth time, Pinkie is trying to commit suiçide.
Pinkie tried to ignore the body, but she just couldn’t bring herself to do that.
“It’s a girl” She said in her head.
She tried holding the girl’s hand but she couldn’t cause she’s becoming weak.
“Help me…..Aurelio” She said in her head, and her eyes went shut.
NEXT DAY*
📺 : Two bodies were found beside the popular blue sea which has been converted into a beach, for the benefit of the citizens of this great country. But unfortunately, the identity of the ladies are yet to be known. But, it’s a thing of joy and surprise that they’re still alive despite the heavy rainfall yesterday. I personally think it’s a miracle.
“Mom!” Liam screamed when he saw Lexi’s face on TV.
“That’s Pinkie” Beauty said, and everyone eyes turned to the TV.
Ivan’s phone fell from his hand.
A HOSPITAL*
Liam and his mom rushed into the ward, making the cops present there shock.
What are the members of the Brooks family doing here?
“Ma’am” A cop muttered.
“Lexi” Mrs Brooks sat beside the bed.
PINKIE’S WARD*
Pinkie is looking pale making everyone worried.
“Will she fine?” Ivan asked worriedly, talking to no one in particular.
Beauty gave a nod, and Austin hugged her.
“Wait” Beauty noticed a ring on Pinkie’s finger.
“It’s hers. It was found on Aurelio” Ivan replied, and then took a deep breath.
“She still hasn’t gotten over him” Mrs Eloise muttered.
Her eyes stung with tears.
Mr Evan just stood in a corner, lost in thoughts.
TWO HOURS LATER*
Immediately Lexi opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was Liam.
She then smiled.
“Gawd, how can you smile? When you scared the freak out of us?!” He exclaimed in disbelief.
She made to sit up.
“Wait” He helped her.
“I’m sorry” She expressed.
She’s mute. She can hear but she can’t speak.
“Don’t ever do that again, okay?”
She gave a nod, and he smiled stroking her hair.
“Where is she?” She expressed.
“Who?” He asked cluelessly.
“The lady who saved me” She expressed.
FLASHBACK STARTS*
“Help me…..Aurelio” She said in her head, and her eyes went shut.
“Pinkie”
“Pinkie”
“Pinkie!” Her eyelids slowly parted.
“I sure heard his voice” She said in his head, looking around.
Lexi was staring at her, sadly.
She stretched her hand, and Pinkie held her hand, trying to get out of the water with her.
FLASHBACK ENDS*
“I wanna go home” Pinkie sat up, removing the syringe on her hand.
Liam came in.
“Liam Brooks?” Ivan muttered.
“Good day Everyone” He greeted politely.
“Good day” They replied in unison
“May I have a moment with her please?” He said staring at Pinkie.
ROOFTOP*
“What’s your name?” Liam asked calmly, and Pinkie looked at him.
“I just wanna know” He smiled, and she rolled eyes making him chuckle.
“Should I just call you pretty?” He joked.
“Hey!” She barked.
“Calm down, Pretty”
“Why am I here?” She adjusted her glasses.
Beauty went home to get it for her.
“To say thank you….. Thanks for saving my sister’s life” He said sincerely.
“Why let her leave the house all alone, if she means that much to you?” She asked sassily.
“No one knew she was out of the house” He replied.
“Then you should have kept a keen eyes on her!” She found herself snapping.
Liam couldn’t help but smile.
“What’s funny?” She hissed.
“Do I look like a clown?” She added.
“No, you don’t. It’s just that no one apart from my friend and family have showed so much concern towards Lexi before” He replied, sadly.
“Why?” She found herself asking.
“Lexi is mute and she got bullied, mocked and mistreated many times, cause of that. So we had to keep her identity a secret from the public, to protect her”
“Er….
She couldn’t form a word.
“She tries to commit suiçide at any given chance….. It really breaks my heart, you know?” His voice broke at the edge.
He turned away from her, and wiped off the tears that escaped his eyes.
“Gawd, I look pathetic, don’t I?” He sniffles.
“No, you don’t” She looked him in the eye.
And just like that, they kept on staring at each other, in the eye.
Locking eyes in the process.
PINKIE’S PLACE*
Pinkie took baby strides to her room, and closed the door.
“I miss my Pinkie” Beauty said, and Austin pulled her, into a comforting hug.
•PAST~ A WEEK AGO•
“Liam!” Mrs Brooks called from downstairs.
“Coming!” Liam replied coming out of his room.
He wore his headphone around his neck, as he descended the stairs.
“Gawd mom” He smacked his lips, seeing a Santa standee.
“Come make a wish, Son” Mr Brooks encouraged.
He stood in front of the fake Santa, closed his eyes and then joined his palms to make a wish.
“Dear Santa, I don’t believe in Christmas miracles but I’ll try to, this time around though…. I’m not guaranteeing you that I’d believe in miracles, if you grant my wish but you could do it, if you want. I’m not begging you” He said in his head.
“And here comes my precious wish, I want a partner who would take me for who I am, and would respect and cherish my family just like I do”
“No more heartbreaks, got it?” He concluded and then opened his eyes.
Lexi then stepped forward, and then closed her eyes.
She joined her palms.
“Dear friend Santa, I have just one wish. I want to be able to speak, just like everyone else” She opened her eyes.
•BACK TO THE PRESENT•
Pinkie is laying on her bed, lost in thoughts.
Beauty came in.
“Pinkie”.
“Pinkie”.
“Pinkie”.
She called, making Pinkie flinch in fear, snapping back to reality.
“What’s up?” Beauty asked sitting on the bed.
“You haven’t been the same since we returned from the hospital” She added.
“How does it feel?” Pinkie asked.
“How does what feel?”
“Having a loved one who often tries to commit suiçide”
Beauty fell silent.
“Answer me, Beauty. Does it feel tiring? frustrating? Sickening? Heartbreaking?” Her eyes flooded with tears.
Silence.
Pinkie held her hands. “Speak to me Beauty. Tell me the truth” She pleaded.
“Yes it does….I miss you Pinkie. This isn’t my best friend Pinkie” Her eyes stung with tears as she said each word.
Pinkie slowly let go of her hands.
“I get that it’s hard for you to put all that has happened behind you. I totally get it, but you have to move on” Pinkie looked at her.
“I’m not asking you to forget about him. He was your first love and no one can deny that. He loved you til his last breath…. And I’m a hundred and one percent sure that he still does even though he isn’t here anymore but you gotta move on, baby gurl” Beauty said, holding her hands tightly.
“Twinnie, it’s been five years already. Five years since I last saw you smile, five years when you last associated with anyone, five fvcking years since we shared a hug, Pinkie” She poured out these words, with tears in her eyes.
“Five long years, since we all heard your annoying loud laughter. Please come back for me. Come back to us, Pinkie” Tears streamed down her cheeks.
“I’m sorry for the everything I’ve made you go through” Pinkie cried.
Beauty wiped off her tears.
“What are you friends for? if not to go through shits together” Beauty chuckled out tears, and Pinkie hugged her tightly.
“I missed you too, Kiddo” Ivan said in his head.
He’s watching them from the door.
Chapter 7 & 8 : Liam and Pinkie’s Growing Bond
•PAST•
“Ma’am, please say something” A cop said to Pinkie politely.
Pinkie’s head is lowered.
“You gonna get compensation….
She raised her head.
“Really? Compensation?” Her voice broke at the edge.
“Can the money bring back Aurelio?!” She burst out in tears.
“Can it?!”
“Can it?!”
“He killed my boyfriend!”
She got up, and grabbed the cop by his collar.
“Bring back my Aurelio!”
“Bring him back!”
“Calm down, Pinkie” Ivan rushed in, and took her out of the interrogation room.
•BACK TO THE PRESENT•
“I miss you, Aurelio” She chuckled, staring at his grave.
“Do you miss me too?” She smiled, emotionally.
The moment when he díed, flashed in front of her eyes.
She burst out in tears.
“Aurelio, why did you leave?”
“You promised me forever. You did”
“But why didn’t you keep your promise?”
“I’m stuck dealing with a deadbeat” She sniffled.
Beauty hugged her.
“It’s been five years, since you left us Aurelio. We miss you” Ivan said, before dropping flowers on his grave.
“We really do, Aurelio. We miss your smile. We miss you. We miss your loud laughter. We miss everything. We miss everything about you” Austin added.
“Aurelio Son, hope you’re fine? we miss you” Mrs Eloise burst out in tears, and her husband, Mr Evan hugged her.
AT NIGHT*
Pinkie came out of the house, and walked to a guy.
He’s Liam.
“What’s up, Pretty?” He beamed.
“Why did you call for me, and why are you here?”
“And also how did you get to know where I live?” She added.
“You look a lot better” He commented.
She rolled eyes.
“C’mon Pinkie, I just wanna be friends”
“Good night” She turned to leave, but he pulled her back.
“Lexi sent you something”
She raised a brow in confusion.
“Here” He pointed a cute shopping bag at her.
“What’s it?”
“It’s not a bomb”.
She smacked her lips. “Okay” She took the bag from him.
There’s a little box inside it.
“Wait, let me have your contact before you inbox it” He pointed his phone at her.
“Why didn’t you ask Ivan for it?” She asked sassily.
“It seems you guys are quite close. Close enough for him to call me out for you” She added.
“Now I can’t why she can’t get over Aurelio. No guy can put up with her attitude” Ivan shook his head.
He’s peeping through a window.
“I didn’t want to do that without your permission” He replied.
“Yet, you came to my house without my permission”.
“I’m sorry” He apologized.
“He seems like someone who respects people’s privacy” She said in her head.
“Whatever” She smacked her lips.
He happily handed her, his phone.
She then inputted her phone number.
“Here” She handed him back his phone.
He noticed the ring on her finger.
“Are you by any chance married?”
“You should asked me that, two seconds ago” She folded her arms.
“Sorry” He muttered.
“Gosh, It’s snowing” She muttered with a hiss, before facing the sky.
“It’s going to be a white Christmas this year” Liam smiled.
“Go in, you look like a snowman already” He chuckled, and she looked at him.
“Sorry, if I said something wrong” He bit down on his bottom lip.
She then smiled lightly. “You look pretty, Snowflower” He smiled, lightly.
FLASHBACK STARTS*
“Gosh, it’s snowing” Pinkie hissed.
“I love this” Aurelio smiled.
“I’m freezing to death and you say you love it?” She frowned cutely, rubbing her palms together to generate some heat.
“C’mon, stop being such a baby” Aurelio mocked.
“Really? A baby?” She scoffed in disbelief, stopping on tracks.
Aurelio burst out in laughter. “You fvcking look like a snowman right now”
“Seriously?” She glared at him.
“I’m so scared” He made faces, holding his chest.
“I won’t speak to you, any more” She threatened.
“Pretty Snowflower” He pecked her cheeks.
She smiled.
“Gosh, I’m freezing” She faked shivering.
“Really?” He laughed gently.
“You shouldn’t you offer me your body warmth?” She pouted.
“In public? While walking on the streets?” He bashed his eyelids in disbelief.
“Yeah”.
“Take my hoodie” He almost yanked it off.
“No wait, let’s do this instead” She put her head of his hoodie.
“This is embarrassing, Pinkie Pink” He chuckled.
“Well, it isn’t for me”.
“Pinkie Pink, wait”.
“My boyfriend’s body is so warm” She grinned.
“Let’s go” She added.
“Gosh” He muttered, as they resumed their walk.
FLASHBACK ENDS*
“Pink Pink Pink” Liam called snapping her out of her thoughts.
“Oh sorry” She muttered.
“Good night”
“Night” She hurriedly went in.
Pinkie is sitting on the bed humming a song as she unboxed the gift, Lexi sent to her.
“A mug?” She muttered.
It’s Pink in colour.
“Wow, it’s so cute” She couldn’t help but admire how cute it was.
Then she remembered Liam.
Everything about him reminds her of her first love, Aurelio.
“What’s wrong with me?” She muttered, staring at the ring on her finger.
BROOKS MANSION*
“Did she like it?” Lexi expressed.
“Yeah. A lot” Liam replied.
“She’s pretty”
“Really?”
“Yeah. You should make her yours” Lexi expressed with a gush.
Liam chuckled stroking her hair.
BEAUTY’S PLACE*
Austin and Beauty are in front of the TV, cuddling as they watched a movie.
Beauty fed him some popcorn and he did same.
BROOKS EMPIRE*
Liam is enjoying the city’s view, grinning like a kid from ear to ear.
Is he in love?
He just can’t stop thinking about her.
“Hello!” Kimberly yelled, making him fall from his swivel chair in fear.
“What were you thinking about that you didn’t even notice my presence?” He asked, sitting down.
“Why are you here?” Liam asked, as he got up.
“There’s a meeting going on with the shareholders and here you are grinning like a kid”.
“Gosh, look at your cheeks. They’re so red” He added.
Liam ignoring him, dusting his suit off.
“Wait, there’s a meeting going on?” He realized what Kimberly just said.
“Yeah”.
“What?! Is dad present?” He quickly picked up his phone.
“Yeah”.
“I’m screwed” He muttered, fearfully rushing out of the office.
Kimberly’s loud laughter, made him turn.
“Who on earth holds a meeting few days to Christmas?” He laughed.
“You punk!” Liam rushed to him.
“Someone help me” He laughed, running around the office.
PINKIE’S ROOM*
Pinkie covered herself with the duvet then her phone chimed.
It’s a message from Liam.
{Liam} : Are you yet asleep?
She took in her lower lip before typing.
{Pinkie} : No.
Her phone started ringing.
She wanted to swipe red, but then changed her mind.
{Pinkie} : I hope you know that it’s rude to call someone on a video call.
{Liam} : Your messy hair looks cute.
{Pinkie} : Why did you call?
She asked brushing her hair with her fingers.
{Liam} : No reason in particular, but someone is interested in seeing your cute little face.
{Pinkie} : Is someone else there?
She found herself asking.
{Liam} : Yeah. A girlfriend.
{Liam} : You should say Hi, you know.
He teased.
Lexi appeared beside him.
{Pinkie} : Hi Lexi
{Lexi} : Hi Pinkie. How are you doing?
She expressed.
{Liam} : She said-
{Pinkie} : I’m great and you?
She replied, cutting Liam off.
They continued talking, until Liam decided to end the call cause he felt left out.
“Goodbye” He said.
“All of a sudden?” Pinkie looked at him.
Lexi faced him in shock.
“Bye” He ended the call.
“What the” Pinkie muttered.
NEXT DAY*
Lexi handed her mom a paper. It’s folded into two.
“What’s it?” She asked.
“Just open it” Lexi expressed.
Mrs Brooks unfolded the paper.
“I want to go outside the mansion” Mrs Brooks read.
“No” She immediately said.
Lexi pouted with a frown.
“No, and that’s final”
Lexi stormed out of the room.
“Lexi!”
“Lexi!”
“Lexi!”
“That brat” She muttered under her breath.
She looked at the passcard beside her.
“No one would let her out of the house without my permission” She muttered.
“Lexi!” Lexi heard a familiar voice.
She turned. It’s Kimberly.
“Kimberly!” She screamed in her head.
“Hi” He waved from downstairs.
She chuckled happily, descending the stairs but then she slipped and rolled down the stairs.
“Lexi!” He screamed in horror.
