I laughed so hard when I heard her scream my name.
This time around,I’m so prepared to make her life harder.

I looked around my room and started throwing clothes about.

I went back into the room and he followed me, closing the door behind me.

” You call that beast a girl? A girl! You wouldn’t understand,Steve. Just stay out of this and watch me.” I replied and went out of the bedroom.
Steve followed.” She has just finished cleaning the living room. Let her rest.”
I turned back to look at him as we descended the stairs.
“Just shut up and watch me. I just wanna teach her a lesson.”
We got to the living room and sat down. Denise came in, looking angrily at me.
I scoffed. “That’s not my business, darling.
Go up to my room and clean it up. Make sure it’s very neat.
I don’t wanna see any dirt in it.” I said, glaring at her.
Denise fumed and walked back upstairs.
Steve shook his head. “This is unfair on a girl.” He said.
“Serves her right,dude. She deserves it and I’m not done with her yet.” I replied and smiled evilly.
Truly I’m not done with her. I’m just about to get started.

Groaning,I walked into room after cleaning up his Christ forsaken room!
I tried calming down so I could actualize my plan.

I turned and left the room, heading downstairs where Steve sat with Albert.

“So,how long are you staying?” I asked Steve who glared at the TV screen.

We began walking away. I turned back my head to look at Albert who stood, looking so shocked.

Why are you doing this? ” I asked once w got inside the kitchen.
I knew it wasn’t that she liked me. There must be a reason for this.

I barged into my room and furiously brought out my bag, flinging anything my hands touched inside it.
I was blinded by my tears.

“What are you doing?”
I snapped around and saw Steve standing by the door.
“What does it look like I’m doing? I’m packing my stuff.” I said in a shaky voice while packing.
From the corner of my eyes,I saw Steve moving towards me. He was gonna touch me but I straightened up and moved.
“Don’t. You don’t know anything about how I came to live here with that…..monster! I’m going and no one is stopping me.” I said and continued packing up.
” I’m not trying to stop you,Denise. Are you mad at me?” Steve asked.
I glared up at him. ” Very. You are so dramatic,aren’t you? What were you saying back then? I told you it was all a game! A pretence to be precise!” I yelled.
” Then what do you want me to do!!” Steve yelled back. I was a little startled.
” What do you want me to do when I started falling deeply in love with you!” Steve asked.
I was staring straight into his eyes and I knew he was gonna kiss me.
Before he could move forward,I turned away.
“I’m sorry,Steve. This isn’t what I planned.
This is getting out of hand. This isn’t what I wanted.” I said slowly.
Steve nodded. ” You don’t even like me a bit? Denise…..look into my eyes and see the truth in them.
I love you. Why can’t you just love me back? Hun?”
I stared back at him and shook my head. ” Steve…I like you too but just as a friend. That’s it. I did not expect you would fall in love with me so fast. This is the main reason I have to go. I will leave school and work harder and pay up my dad’s debt.” I said and breathed in.
My mom will help out too…I will just have to tell her.
Steve pulled me closer and gave me a warm hug. I hugged him back. “Try to be in touch.”
I smiled behind him. “I will. I’m sorry Steve.” I said softly as we disengaged and stared at each other.
Steve smiled and gave me a short nod before leaving the room. His gaze was very hostile now as he left.
Breathing in again,I began packing up.
Twenty minutes later,I was done putting my things together.
I looked around the cute took I was beginning to make a home and sighed.
Albert..am I feeling something for him here? No. I shook my head. I had better not and get outta here before I become an instrument for war.
I took up my bag and quietly left the room .
Albert did not even come out even when I walked past his door. I stood in front of his door trying to knock but anytime I tried doing so,my hand just falls back beside me.
Sighing,I left the house.
I was standing at the park waiting for a cab when my cellphone rang.
At first I wasn’t do interested in picking the call but it was dad. I had to.

Dad sounded so happy and it quickly caught my attention.
📱Dad? What happened? Are you okay?”

I went silent, staring at the kids playing soccer by the grass nearby. It was a good news indeed but why am I not really happy about it?
It would have made me jump high up into the sky few days ago.

I could tell Dad looked very confused at what I said. “You left there already?, Well, it’s no big deal.

I sighed again as a cab finally pulled in front of me. I hopped in as the car pulled back into the road.
I stopped to check what my heart was saying.
I was still thinking about Albert..
It was frustrating. Why am I thinking about him for crying out loud!
I was getting furious with myself. Going back home won’t do.
I will have to go to Newton at Mom’s place or even stay there and never come back again but my step family has got this gift in exhausting me!
Sometimes I wonder why mom and dad got divorced.
Well I think I Know the reason. There was not enough love between them. Fact is…mom doesn’t love Dad at all. She had only agreed to marry him cos she was desperate then.
And now she’s met the man of her dreams. A pilot Tony Walter who is also a divorced. He’s got two daughters of my age and a son of seventeen.
We’ve gotten closer for the past six years but I just prefer living with Dad till I’m out of school who has gotten no one by his side.
The cab pulled in front of my house, jerking me out of my thoughts.
I came down and slipped into the narrow gate of the front yard.
Dad was truly waiting for me and we embraced.
I tried to be happy but I just continued thinking about Albert even for days.
Its unexplainable. To me. To everything.
Two weeks later,I was in my room packing up my stuff.
I’ve been such a nervous wreck. And surprisingly waiting for Albert’s call.
But he never did. I did not even set eyes on him since then.
This shows I was right after all! All he wanted to play was another prank by telling me he loves me!
I couldn’t forget about him and I thought it best I leave town for Newton maybe my noisy step siblings would be of help.
“Are you sure about this?” Dad asked, coming in.
I turned and smiled. ” Dad…you don’t have to worry. I’m gonna come right back when I’m alright.” I assured him.
” Why did you choose this life over the luxury your mom could offer you at Newton?” Dad suddenly asked.
” I love you Dad….it’s unbearable to see you live alone.”
Dad smiled. “One day,Denise…you are gonna get married and live then in your new home.
Me living alone is nothing. You can stay with your mom so you can get the better to life.” Dad admonished.
Fast tears ran down my face as I ran forward and three my arms around him.
“I will be back. I promise.” I said again. I was gonna miss him cos I knew I was gonna stay very long.
Maybe four months. Six months. One year. Whatever to make me come back to my normal self.
“Okay! Hurry up so you wont be late for your flight.” Dad said smiling and left the room.
I smiled back and finished up my packing before glaring at myself in the mirror.
I stared at myself. I suddenly looked wield in my simple white jersey and deep blue pants.
At that very moment,my stomach grumbled.
The previous night, I had to throw up three times before I slept off.
I thought it was only a migraine but it’s still playing back.
I groaned, rushing off to the toilet when it ran up my throat. “Not again!, Not this morning!” I cried walking back inside my room.
I tried concealing my condition from Dad cos he might ask me to cancel my flight but it didn’t work.
He was quick to notice. “Are you okay?” He asked as we came out of the house.
Before I could say a word, everything around me began turning. I was do dizzy dad held me. Exhausted, I passed out.

Groaning, I slowly opened my eyes to stare up at the white ceiling above me.
I glared around and there was dad, sitting beside me on a chair.
Weekly, I glared at the wall clock on the wall and gasped weakly. “Why didn’t you wake me up dad? I’m late!” I whispered.
Dad was staring intently at me. He was ever so quiet as he stared at me.
“Where am I?” I asked when I remembered how I fainted.
” Relax, baby. We are in the hospital. You passed out there hours ago.” Dad replied calmly.
” What? Why? How? I need to see the doctor. What’s wrong with me? “I asked, sitting up.
Dad shook his head. ” No need for a doctor now… Denise. He told me already.” Dad said more calmly.
I stared at him. Why is he sounding this way?” What’s wrong with me then?” I asked him.
“Denise… You are two weeks pregnant. How did it happened? Who did this? ” Dad blurted out and I wanted to laugh as I stared at him.
“Who? Who’s pregnant?” I asked sharply.
“The result sheet is right here. You have to tell me who is responsible. “Dad said again.
I gasped.

“Albert? What did I just hear you say? You mean Albert is responsible for your pregnancy?
Oh my goodness, I can’t believe this!” Dad exclaimed, throwing his hands in the air.
We are already back home and I’ve been thinking endlessly since then.
The big question is…what do I do!!
How could this happen now that I wanna go away! “I’m confused dad!
He’s the main reason I’m running away. I can’t just tell him about this.” I said sighing.
I stared down at my flat tummy. So,I’m carrying his child?
Dad placed his hand on my shoulder.
“Denise,you are old enough to get pregnant for a good guy.
I don’t know why you chose Albert.
But whatever happens,you have to let him Know about this. Do you live him?”
I stared at dad, wondering if I do. Do I?
I couldn’t deny it. I’ve fallen in love with him…. no matter how I hate to admit it.
I nodded and tears dropped off my eyes as I looked at dad. “But….I don’t think he loves me too. All he’s ever done is play stupid games with me. He never called since I left the house. Dad….he doesn’t love me.” I said pitifully.
Dad smiled. ” You have to go to hold first, Denise. You can’t tell if he’s waiting for you to come back. Look,go to him and tell him about this pregnancy and listen to what he’s gonna say. This is the best thing to do. Trust me.”
I looked at dad with appreciation. What d would I have done with an understanding father like him?
I breathed in and glanced at the wall clock. It was almost eleven.
Where would he be now? Club? His room? Or perhaps…..his dad’s new company.
I can’t just tell at the moment. I returned to my room while dad volunteered to make fresh coffee.
I sat on my bed and grabbed my phone to dial his number since two weeks now only to remember I already deleted it.
Including Steve’s.
“Oh goodness.” I muttered and stood up.
I have to go and see him. I’m carrying his child. Whatever happens,I have to tell him first.

I was sitting in one of the sofas at Bloom and Shine club.

All my life, I’ve never been so carried away and confussed.

I had attempted to call her so many times since she left but I couldn’t just imagine letting my pride fall.
When did she become so important to me? Every seconds now, I think about her.
I tried so many times to stop. I couldn’t. It was just too IMPOSSIBLE!!
“I don’t know Tom….. I just need some time to think.
I will call you tomorrow. Oh no… That won’t be possible.
My dad will need me at the new factory tommorow morning. Let’s make it tommorow night. “

An hour later, I was standing in front of the window over looking the front garden in my apartment.
It was getting dark outside. As usual, the day had gone so boring.
Something occurred to me. While Denise lived with me, I had been happier then…. Making her staying here a living hell.
But now she’s gone…. boredom became my second home.
The knock on the door was quiet and soft. I had to listen very well to make sure I heard someone knock.
The knock came again.
That must be Steve. What’s the bastard doing here? I thought as I walked swiftly to the door.
The opened the door only to find Denise standing on the porch.
My first instinct was to shout her name,and carry her up into my arms!!
But then,I found myself glaring at her with growing anger. “Denise.” I said her name sharp and short.
“Can I come in?” Her voice came.
“Here to beg your way back?” I asked, turning away and heading back inside. She followed.
“And what’s that supposed to mean?” Denise asked, standing behind me.
I turned to look at her. It was so hard to keep my hands free from hugging her right now.
I’ve never let my pride fall. Why now? “You heard me well. What the hell are you doing here?” I asked quietly.
Denise stared at me and i stared back at her, defiantly.
“You are a monster…aren’t you?” She asked. Tears had started to gather in her eyes.
I smiled ruefully. Now she’s about to cry? I told her I love her weeks ago but all she did was to leave me in a total mess.
“You are the monster here,baby. You were the one who left.
You left….never looking back. I wonder what you are doing here again.”
I asked although I was the happiest man on earth for seeing her back in my apartment.
Denise shook her head,as if surprised. “I will leave,Albert.
I’m gonna leave but first….I need to tell you this. It’s the reason I’m here… nothing else.
In fact,I’m supposed to be at Newton the next hour or so but it stopped me from going.
You have every right to know about this.” Denise said and took a deep breath before glaring back at me.
“I’m…. carrying your child, Albert. I’m… pregnant.” She said slowly.
And I heard it slowly too. I stared at her like she was a different creature from another planet. I laughed shortly.
What a piece of a heart melting joke! I glared down at her stomach before glaring back at her face.
“You are what? Wait,Denise…what do you take me for? A fool? A moron? How could you come up with a cheap lie just for an apology!” I blurted out.
Her startled eyes scanned my face.
Then she dipped her hand into her pants pocket and brought out a white sheet of paper.
I glared down at it but refused taking it.
“And what’s that?” I asked but instead of answering,she threw the paper angrily at me.
I met back the hot gaze in her eyes. “Throwing a paper at me is an heavy insult Denise.” I said stiffly.
” You’ve insulted me enough, already! You bastard! How could you say that to me? If you don’t believe me just take a look at the result!” She yelled.
I was becoming emotional but I perfectly covered it up with my arrogance. What if she’s truly pregnant? What prove do I have that it belongs to me? She had sex with Steve, didn’t she?
I bent and took the paper in my hands gingerly and allowed my focused eyes to scan the content.

I waited while he read the result. Suddenly he glared up at me and rumpled the sheet then threw it in front of me.
“You are really pregnant?You say for me? What prove do you have?” He asked, edging nearer.
I sighed with amazement. “You are really doubting me? You think thus isn’t your baby I’m having?”I asked loudly.
Albert shrugged, folding his arms. “I should doubt you cos last two weeks also…you has sex with Steve right inside your room….I heard it loud and clear.
The screaming and all that.
How sure are you that it isn’t Steve’s baby you were carrying?
He had sex with you before me…right?” He asked.
I glared angrily at him. I had no intention of even telling him Steve and I never had sex. And why?
Because he didn’t even look at me with respect. He didn’t talk to me with respect. He’s doubting me and it’s clear he never loved me… not for once.
I turned and began walking towards the door. I heard him rushing up behind me. He grabbed my hand and turned me furiously so I could face him.
“Denise….stop.” Albert started. His voice had gone solemn and soft.
“What do you want from me,Albert? Just let me go.
This baby I’m carrying? I will take care of it myself.
You don’t have to doubt me or worry. Goodbye “
I said stiffly and turned to go but he wouldn’t release me from going.
“Denise,…..I…. please.. don’t go. I might just die if you do!” Albert said loudly.
“You really do love me!!” I gasped.
Instead of answering, Albert gathered me into his arms and planted a kiss on my hair. “God,Denise ….you don’t know how much!
Look….I was only trying to keep myself under control…I missed you so much it hurts!
I don’t wanna know whose baby you are carrying….the baby is mine cos you are mine!” Albert says happily.
I glared up at him and laughed. Is this really happening? “Look Albert…I have a confession to make. Steve and I…never had sex.
It was all a game…. everything.” I said and smiled up at him.
He was staring into my eyes with laughter in his eyes. “Denise…you are really carrying my first baby? So.. you guys never had sex? Oh my goodness!! You guys really got me there! I almost wanted to go crazy…” Albert said and burst out laughing.
I laughed back as he hugged me more tightly. All the sorrows and pain vanished immediately.
Albert truly loves me…he truly does!
“You are carrying my child…and that makes you my wife to be. I love you Denise….I always will…” Albert said into my ear before bending to take my lips into his…!!💖💖

The telephone on my desk buzzed loudly and I picked it up Immediately.
It was a message from dad, telling me to come over for the family photo shoot. It was almost December.
My family is always crazy about Christmas Eve.
I wouldn’t have even given it a second thought to go but I guessed I could use that opportunity and introduce my Denise to them.
I smiled at the thought.
Last week had been a wow with her. Most times she spends the night in my house.
I glanced at the wall clock and realized it was almost six PM.
I took my cellphone and dialled Denise’s number. She picked up at the third ring.
📱 Sweetheart….are you home already?” I asked once I heard her voice.
📱Yea…just getting in now. After making dinner…I think I will wanna spend the night.
Dad has gone into town to visit a friend and he’s gonna spend the night there.” Denise said from the other line.
That gladdened my heart Immediately.
I smiled.”That’s great. I wanna see my baby kicking tonight.” I said and laughed with her.
” Give me Thirty minutes so I can round up.
Don’t stress yourself on cooking. Let’s eat out.”
I said softly into the phone and heard her chuckle.
“I’m fine, Albert. I will be waiting.”
The phone call ended minutes later. I stood up and wore my jacket before picking up the necessary things on my desk.
I took up my car key and left the office.
At the grand floor, I dishes out some instructions to the secretary and finally left.
I got to the parking lot and drove straight home.

After the call,I walked into the kitchen a d thought of what to make for dinner.

I checked the stuffs in the kitchen and decided to make key lime pie.
I was adding flour to the baking pan when Albert’s car arrived.
I peeped down the kitchen window and saw him coming down from the car.
I smiled and went back to my cooking.
“I’m home somebody. Hmm. Something smells nice. ” Albert says, stepping into the kitchen.
I laughed, turning to face him. He put his arms around me, drawing me to himself.
In return, I wrapped my arms around his neck. “You are back early.” I said as he bent low and kissed me gently.
I blushed.
“I couldn’t wait to see you and our baby.” Albert replied, placing a hand over my still flat tummy.
I laughed again. “I’m not even showing yet!” I exclaimed.
Albert smirked playfully. “What are you making?”
“Lime pie.”
“Hmm. Yummy.”
” Go in and change while I serve dinner.” I said, pushing him slightly towards the door.
Albert gave me a thumbs up before disappearing.
Minutes later,I set up the dinning and we had dinner.
After dinner we sat beside the fire in the spare living room, making plans.
“You think your mom’s gonna like me?” I asked, sighing.
Albert’s family are well known.
Great and famous.
It was still hard to believe I was gonna get marry to Albert. The sheriff’s son.
I had to look at myself so long in the mirror last night. Am I gonna find favor in his mother’s sight?
Heard she stays in Oakland with Albert’s sisters.
His parents aren’t divorced and I wonder why they live apart.
“Are you bothered about meeting my family?
Don’t be. My mom’s lovable and my sisters? They will so much love to see you.
They can’t wait to see that lady who has finally captured the heart of their son and brother. Cheer up.” Albert said and I shrugged.
Dad is fine with me getting married to Albert.
Three days ago Albert had taken some expensive wines to dad and now,
they are best of friends but some times I just think things are going so smooth to be normal.
Albert brought down the duvet covers and pillows down from the bed and we we spent the night together in front of the fire.
The knock on the door the next morning was loud and persistent.
I was the first person to drag my eyes open.

“Who the heck is knocking so early in the morning?” Albert asked. I glared at the wall clock still feeling sleepy. It was just seven on the dot.
Great. Whoever it is must have seen us in the dream last night!
Albert stood up, going toward the hallway.
I stood up too and came out into the general living room.
An angry face appeared into the living room and I had to look twice. I’ve seen her before. Where was it?
“What the hell are you doing here so early in the morning?” Albert asked harshly.
Oh yes! Suddenly I remember where I saw her and my heart made a speedy sound. Bridget.
The girl I saw with Albert the very first day I came into the house.
Bridget was glaring at me with disgust. “Oh…so it’s actually through? I thought it was a rumour.
But it’s true after all? What are you doing here,you bitch!’ Bridget yelled at me.
I closed my eyes, trying to gather control. “Albert?” Was all I said.
“Bridget,it’s my wife you are talking to that way!” Albert scolded.
Bridget scoffed. ” What a bluff,Alb. You are really a joker. Wife? Hello? Excuse me!” Bridget ranted.
I couldn’t day anything. I was just glaring at her, wondering what the hell she wanted.
“Look my dear. You had better stay clear off him. He’s mine. If you don’t want me to burst you out,get your piggy hocks off my man!” Bridget yelled.
I laughed shortly. ” Really?”
Albert jumped in before I could say something else.

Bridget laughed loudly before glaring at him.
” Oh really? How sure are you? Now let me tell you what you don’t Know honey. I’m carrying your child!”
It seemed everyone and everything in the world seized moving and breathing. My eyes rested on Albert. Am I hearing right?
