Episode 6 : Unexpected Confession
“I cant, I just cant do this with you”.
She said as she slipped away from my arms and went and sat in one of the sofa…I came and sat beside her.
“Why….is it cause of Pedro or is it the SUV guy”.
I asked fearing what her answer would be…but I needed to know.
But she just gave me those smiles that makes all your worries go away.
“Jealousy doesnt look good on you sir” she said still smiling.
I scoffed ” Pls just drop the title, just call me derek” I said.
“Ok derek” she said stretching the alphabets of my name as in d-e-r-e-k.
At this we both burst into laughter..I loved her charisma.
and she got those sense of humour that made me hypnotized to her.
” well Pedro…I like him,he’s got this huge heart, he’s romantic very smart businessman and to top it all…he knows how to treat a lady well…and yes he kissed me a couple of times….but I cant be with him…..cause I cant be in a relationship with someone I have no feelings for or love….and I told him on the night of the awards…and he took it like a perfect gentleman”…..she said.
“Wow….its not often you see a lady turn down a president’s son advances…” I said smiling.
“Yeah…I just figured that I cant lead him on….he’s such a nice guy..”.
“So what about the SUV guy” I asked curious.
She laughed..”you mean…kelvin..he uhmmm,its a long story” she said shutting me out.
“I have all the time in the world” I said as I held her hands. ….but she rose up from the sofa and went across the room…I felt like she was holding back on somethings or feelings for this kelvin guy.
And it hurt like hell,because it just seemed like I dont stand a chance with her if she is already inlove with kelvin.
“Its past 9pm already and way pasty bed time” she said politely asking me to go..and coyly changing the topic.
“Ok,what about tomorrow ,tomorrow is Sunday and we can discuss all about kelvin and other stuff at dinner”…I said,without knowing that I asked her out.
“Thanks, but kelvin is taking me out to catch a movie tomorrow, so raincheck..” said softly.
It felt like a pitball hit my groins..then I stood up from the sofa walked up to her with my hands in my pocket..because at that moment all I wanted was to hug her tight and kiss her goodnight.
“See you on monday” I said and left.
I drove so fast ,so that I can’t think about her.
I got home ,walked upstairs into my dark room and I didnt bother to switch on the light . ..really tired and hungry but i preferred to sleep so I fell on the bed.
“Where have you been D” a voice in the dark asked..startling the living daylight out of me…I jerked up from the bed and rushed to the switches..
“Jeez,what the heck isabel” I said as I switched on the light.
She laughed hysterically pointing at me.
“Oh my God, you could have seen your face right now….I didnt know you can be frightened like this ” she said still laughing.
“This is not funny,isabel” I said.
“Ok,am sorry to startle you, but I called Tony and he said you left the club over an hour ago…” she said throwing me that interrogative stare from her…
“And why should I explain my whereabouts to you” I asked as I walked down the stairs to the kitchen to prepare myself some noodles and Ofcus she followed me down pestering me with questions….she was driving me insane I swear.
“Did you go see beverly” she asked throwing her usual stare..I pretended I didnt hear her. …how the hell did she know…then I turned slowly to face her.
“Who told you that” I asked pretended I didnt know what she was talking about.
“I know my brother so well,so much so that whenever I likes something or someone he always goes for it”….she said as she took the noodles from me and put inside the pot of water…she wanted to help me cook.
“I guess you know me too well for your own good….” I said as I sat on the kitchen counter.
“So how did it go” she asked.
“It was good, she forgive me and accepted My apology…so we are back to being friends…I said.
“Just friends, come on D, its written allover you….you are head over heels inlove with this girl and might not know it yet…but trust me you dont wanna be stuck in the friend zone ” she said as she hit the eggs into a plate…she never mince her words…always straight forward.
“I dont ok, but I dont know what else to do…alright ….I I admitted my feelings to her but I think it was too late because it seems she likes the SUV guy” I said sadly.
“Derek, the goodnews is that she is neither engaged or married to this guy, so you still a chance with her….and the Derek I know doesnt back down from a competition “…she said as she put down the pot from the gas and dished it our for both of us.
I came to work a little bit late on Monday morning…so on coming out of the elevator beverly hijacked me from the elevator with different documents that needed my signature.
“Sir, you have a 12pm meeting with the branch manager of zenith bank and a guest is waiting for you in your office” she said and left.
“And who are you” I asked to the lady sitting in my chair,inside my own office…though she backed me and I couldn’t say who it was…and then she turned around…and I saw the least person I expected to see.
“Oh my God, Eva what are you doing here” I asked happily as I hugged her tightly.
I was still holding her in my arms when beverly and Isabel walked in on us…I pulled jer off slowly.
I saw something that looked like jealousy in her eyes when she saw me holding Eva…but she hid it very well.
“OMG, Eva honey what are you doing here” Isabel asked as they hugged each other.
“Well for starters, I called off my wedding a day before yesterday. …I caught my fiancee in bed with his secretary…..I wasnt shocked at all..I always knew he has eyes for other girls….so the first thing I did was take pictures of them…and I took the first flight back to nigeria yesterday…” she said a little excited.
“Savage!!!…and you sound happy about it” isabel asked.
“Ofcus I am…atleast this charade of marriage came to an end,…I also showee the pictures to my parents when I came back yesterday…they didnt take it so well…they cancelled all their partnerships with my ex’s family…afterall it was them that arranged the marriage..” she said happily…
“So what are your plans now” I asked.
“Well for now ,I just wanna spend some time with my bestfriend”…she said and she came around to where I stood and held me by the arms.
We both laughed. …..but isabel laughed hysterically.
“Bestfriends you say…”Isabel asked.
“Ofcus you didnt tell her” she continued.
“Tell me what”Eva asked.
“My brother has been crushing on you since fourth grade…he promised me he would tell you after you guys graduation from Oxford Oxford university. …but I guess he didnt” my sister said casually.
“And I thought I was the only one” Eva said as she turned towards me..I was suprised by her statement.
“I’ve always liked you…I mean who wouldnt…and besides you were always surrounded by girls back then at the university. ….an I didnt want to spoil our beautiful friendship so…thats that..” she said solmnely.
I was shocked and suprised..I looked around the room…and suprisingly beverly was there and she heard everything.
And I swear was starting to get a little complicated now…I wonder what she will be going on in her mind now.
“I dont think this is this place or the time to talk about ‘this’ personal stuff” I said sounding really pissed at Isabel.
“I should go sir”…Beverley said and left the office….I wanted to run after her and tell her that all she heard was a lie but I couldn’t because it was all true…I had been inlove with Eva since highschool…she meant the world to me back then…and I could have done anything for her…
The time I wanted to tell her how much I loved her …..her parents took her out of the country and got her married off…an now she is back and single again…I just dont know what to do.
I am stuck with the love I felt for Eva and the love am feeling now for Beverly.
I am stuck in a crossroad and I dont know where to turn”.
“I will be leaving now Derek…it was really good seeing you…and I will stop by on Sunday to see ur parents…i’ve missed them”…she said as she left my office.
Shit,this was the same Sunday my parents asked me to bring beverly home for them to thank her for saving their son.
“Kill me already” I said as I sank into my seat.
Episode 7 : A Complicated Triangle
Since after the sudden return of Eva and secrets unveiling in my office 3days ago,beverly hardly stays in my office more than 30seconds…once she is done with whatever brought her to my office,voooom she is gone….it just seems that she is avoiding me.
More often than not Eva has come to my office thrice this week to grab lunch with me..I love it…and am seriously not complaining atleast it helps me catch up with years we havnt seen each other…but I dont know, I just miss beverly…even though she comes to work everyday and I see her every now and then,it just feel like shes been distant.
So I took it upon myself to pay her a quick visit in her office…..that seems to be the only way I can get her undivided attention.
She stood up immediately she saw me walk in on her….looked really suprised to see me,given that she just left my office few minutes ago.
“Is there anything I can do for you sir” she asked politely.
“Oh dont worry, I just wanted to checkup on you, as friends we hardly talk this days…”…I said staring at her beautiful face..I can swear she blushed..
I bit my lips cause my next sentence might not be welcomed well..”you know since you heard everything in my office about Eva you’ve been acting weird and distant…like we never had a moment at your place…like the kiss didnt happen” I asked sadly.
She sighed….”Lets just keep it that way…like it didnt happen…especially not now that the love of your life is back into yourlife” she said solemnly….like she was hurting.
“What do you know”..I said in my mind.
I was hurt the more by what she said…?
Immediately her office phone rang.
“I will have to take this sir,”she said as she made to answer the call..but I got to it before her hands could reach it.
“She is in a meeting” I said to whomever that was in the other line..and dropped the phone..she looked at me in suprise.
“That could have been an important call” she said sounding really shocked.
“They can wait” I replied back.
She looked at me shocked and suprised…still trying to find out what exactly brought me into her office.
“Anyway, I came to let you know that my parents will like to formally meet you on Sunday….this is our address “I said as I handed her the card…..
“What for,if I may ask” she said.
“Well they wanted to meet the lady that saved their boy from the fire accident….and I know you might probably have plans with kelvin on Sunday,…so am just asking if u can respect this invite” I said.
” well…I dont have any plans with kelvin, and second of all i will be there” she said staring at me…I couldn’t help but stare back…she was perfection. ….
I looked away and turned to leave her office but I stopped……… “screw this” I said as I turned back and walked up to her held face and kissed her tenderly and deeply…..and instantly I was aroused. ….and Ofcus she kissed me back…I let go of her few minutes later,I lost my breath as I stared at her flushed face not knowing what to say…,so I just turned to leave again before I do anymore crazy stuff.
“You cant just kiss me any time you feel like it” she said softly.
“I can’t help it ok….I cant…I cant just bury my feelings because Eva just got back and you are with kelvin…am sorry but I cant do that…..and whether you wanna belive it or not….I know you feel something for me too….your kiss says it all…I said as I left.
On getting to my office Eva was already inside…not now.
“Eva, what are you doing here” I asked as she came around and hugged me.
“Are u ok, you look troubled” she asked.
I’ve almost forgotten thats one of the things I love about her…she always looks out for me.
“Am fine….it just work”I lied…..so what brought you by”I asked as I sat behind my desk..it was already past 4 and I totally forgot that I promised to introduce her to my friends today.
“don’t tell me you have forgotten you promised to introduce me to Tony and co” she said smiling.
“Damn,my bad…am sorry I totally forgot…but u are early ,I remember telling you we will meet them at the club…that you should come over at my place by 6pm so we can go from there..” I said as I packed to leave the office for day.
“Well,you are right….I just wanted to spend some time with you…is that a bad thing” she asked softly…..seeming like she was hurt by my interrogation.
“Ofcus not,forgive my manners” I said.
“You can make it up to me by buying us lunch ” she said smiling.
I laughed….typical Eva.
“Alright, lets go” I said as we left the office.
We got to the eatery,I ordered my favorite, white rice and sauce, she ordered fried rice and salad….we eat as we reminiscenced about the past,…..we laughed a whole lot through our the lunch that people stared at us…I was really enjoying my afternoon.
I told her about my ex fiancee Sandra, and how she betrayed me….she was baffled.
“Her loss,….though you haven’t told me why a healthy, young, handsome business mogul like you still single,….I mean am suprised” she said..
“I gave up on women, I initially categorized them as the same untill I met someone that proved me wrong “I said as I thought of beverly..
Immediately she raised an eyebrow…”hmm, and who was that” she asked.
“No, its nothing ” I lied as I eat my food.
She held my hand and intertwined my fingers with hers, I looked at her in suprise..and she said.
“Since we both are single, and we care about eachother alot, why dont we make us official” she said as she kissed me….and I just sat there.
We got to the club around 8pm..my guys where already there , so I took her straight to our VIP spot.
“Guys meet Eva, Eva meet my crazy friends..” I said as I introduced them.
Eva was the life of the party,she immediately blended in..my friends seems to like her especially Jason….as the both danced stupidly. ….Eva was a terrible dancer but that never stoped her from dancing anyway.
“Can I talk to you,in a less noisy place” Tony said as we left them and went to the men’s restroom.
“Yeah,whatsup bruh” I said as we got to the rest room.
“What the f**k man, is she for real…that guys are dating…just few days after she called off her wedding..what do u think people and the media will say..”..he asked.
” I dont really care man” I said casually.
“Ok, what about beverly….are you just gonna pretend that you dont love her” Tony said…asking the most difficult question.
“I dont know man, she is with kelvin alright, and she likes him….so…its all good” I said sadly.
“Do you love Eva like u do beverly”…tony asked again…am getting really pissed at this interrogations.
“Alright thats enough man” I said as I tried to stay sane and awake since its becoming clear that I was drunk already.
“Thats what i thought,…keep on drinking urself to stupor thinking it will make you forget beverly….believe me it will make it worse…i’ve never known you for a coward ” Tony said and he left.
I came out of the rest room and ordered for another bottle of Moet.
I drank so much that Eva had to drive me home around 12am
She actually helped me upstairs and to my room…I fell on the bed like a log of wood…very tired and miserable.
“You need to remove you cloths and take a shower….you reek of alcohol ” she said as she made me sit up on the bed and started unbuttoning my shirt…she removed my shirt, shoes and other jewelries I wore…handed me a towel and dragged me to the shower.
Still drunk and feeling lightheaded I removed my trouser infront of her and laughted hysterically…suprisingly she didnt Look shy….as a matter of fact she smiled.
“You wanna join me” I said smiling as I draw closer to her and grab her waist….kissed her and unhooked her bra…I looked up at her as she was already flushed and aroused…I unbottoned her blouse and grab her breast….as she moaned…few minutes we were in eachothers arms inside the shower as we made out….it was a drunken long night.
I woke up 9am the following day…naked on the bed with no record of what happened last night…”what the fuck” I said as I got up from the bed grabbed a neat boxer from the wardrobe and headed downstairs.
I heard some noise in the kitchen…so i went to check it out……it was Eva wearing one of my shirts,cooking what smelled really nice.
“Eva” I said suprisingly as I thought she left last night after she got me home.
” oh honey….goodmorning ” she said as she came and wrapped her hands around my neck…and kissed me.
“Why are you wearing that” I said.
“U really dont remember last night” she said smiling.
“Well maybe” I said feeling a little embarrassed.
“Last night was magical” she said as she sat me down on the dinner sat on my lap and told me everything exactly as it happened…it jogged my memories as I started to see flashes of what happened last night.
“Ok ok ok, I think I’ve heard enough” I said as I carried her off my lap to her feet…she was getting me aroused.
“Am gonna go shower…..I have a 10am meeting at the office”I said as I made to leave the kitchen but she blocked my exit.
“Breakfast first before you go” she said smiling..I couldn’t help but laugh.
“Alright boss” I said as I went upstairs to shower.
I stood impatiently at the balcony on my parents place waiting to see if beverly will come see my parents as she promised.
I mean my mum , Isabel had put in alot of work to prepare some wonderful dish for the dinner…especially for beverly an Ofcus for Eva who will also be visiting…..I just have a bad feeling about this dinner…so I invited Tony too….he was the first that drove in with his fiancee. ….Eva came in a minute later…as she made it abundantly clear to my whole family and friends that we were officially together as she kissed me in front of them all when I went to welcome her.
Tony came up to where I was standing on the balcony. ….he knew something was eating me up so he came to see if I was ok..
“Are u tensed that Eva might find out that your inlove with your PA….or is it because you had sex with Eva and now you feel like you cheated on beverly even though u guys aren’t a thing, and you are afraid she might find out tonight….am I right” Tony said as he stared at me…how the hell did he know all this.
“How did you know” I asked as I turned to face him…..I was scared that if beverly found out,whatever she might feel for me will just vanish…and I would lose her forever.
“You didnt cheat on beverly,cus you guys ain’t dating, so relax your mind” Tony said as he tapped me on the shoulder.
We were still talking when a black tinted glass landcruiser drove inside the compound.
We watched as beverly walked down from the car with kelvin.
“you’ve got to be kidding me” I said when I saw them.
I went down stairs with Tony who told me to keep my cool….and dont act or say anything stupid.
“Hi…you made it” I said as I welcomed them inside. ….forcing a smile.
“Yes, Derek meet kelvin….kelvin this is my boss” she said as she introduced us.
“I’ve heard alot about you” he said smiling.
“You have, haven’t you” I said.
“don’t be cocky Derek,welcome our guest inside” my mum shouted from behind.
We guys sat in the living room as the ladies went to the kitchen to help my mum dish out the foods.
This was the perfect opportunity I had to ask kelvin the question that beverly didnt want to answer.
“So how long have you known,beverly” I asked casually.
“We’ve known eachother way back in highschool….she got a scholarship to study in my school back then..adorable British college in lekki…she was the poor kid that got the opportunity to study in the best college in nigeria…or so our schoolmates thought back then…but I knew she was special right from the time I saw her….not only was she smart..she was compassionate and beautiful…….we started off as friends then ended up becoming more than friends…we were madly inlove with each other…I promised her I will marry her oneday….after our waec I took her to meet my parents but they disapproved of our friendship and shipped me abroad afterwards……i just got back few weeks ago and I swear I never thought I would see her again..” he said solmnely.
“Wow….thats some history” that was all I could say because this guy didnt just like Beverly ……he adored her….
“So what are your plans now,since you are back” Tony asked.
“Well I came back to take over my familys business and also start my own media company….but most importantly I plan to spend some time with the love of my life ….and fulfill my promise…”he said smiling.
“Dinner is set boys” my mum called out.
At the dinner all my parents and Eva talked about was Beverly and kelvin…and how they have a beautiful relationship. I was gutted…I felt like leaving. …..
” so how long have you guys been together ” kelvin asked Eva and I…I didnt know how to answer that…so Eva did the honours.
And ofcus she said things that I didn’t plan on getting out…not the sex though.
I just stood up and excused myself…as everyone stared at me.
Episode 8 : The Dinner Party Disaster
“If you’ll will excuse me… I want to use the rest room”…I said as I left the dinner.
I lied of going to the restroom as I turned through the hallway and went straight outside at the back of the building ,went and sat beside the pool….I need a breath of fresh air as I was suffocating even under the AC.
Few minutes later Tony came out ,…walked up to me carrying a plate of cake and a glass of orange juice….came and sat beside me at the pool..
“I know I will find your lying ass here…it was obvious that you were very uncomfortable with the whole narrative of beverly and kelvin been good together…plus i knew you were getting worked up with all the unnerving questions flying at you at the dinner and you wanted to escape and I knew nothing calms your nerve like water” Tony said smiling at me as he eat his cake and drank his juice…damn Tony loves food..and no one knows me like he does.
I smiled as I looked at him enjoying himself.
“Hmmm,damn this cake is so good ” he said as he devoured the cake.
“Is it that good” I asked.
“Its the best i’ve eaten in forever…..beverly did wonders here” he said smiling as he eat the cake….on hearing that beverly baked it here…I wanted to have a thirst of it…I haven’t eaten anything she’s made before and I wouldnt pass on the chance of eating it now….so I took the plate of cake from Tony and took a mouthful.
“Oh my God,..this is fucking delicious”I said as I took another bite.
“Ok tiger thats enough….there is plenty left in the kitchen…go get yours man” he said as he took the cake from me.
“I never knew beverly can bake this good” I said.
“Yeah,…I bet there are a million and one thing you don’t know about her…like the fact that she and kelvin go way back” tony chipped in..
“Yeah… I guess you are right ” I said sadly.
“Look Derek…I dont know what it is you feel for Eva or beverly…but I am telling you this…if your heart wants Eva then give her all your love and support and time…but if its Beverly that your heart is yearning for…then by all means fight for the love you have for her…the fact that she and kelvin go way back doesnt mean that they both are destined for each other”..he said solemnly.
I smiled “you sounded a whole lot like Isabel…thanks for the advise man” I said.
“Now get your black ass up and go see your guest off”…tony said as we both burst into laughter….as we entered the building.
Tony went to the rest room to ease himself while I went straight to the kitchen to get my own plate of cake…but suprisingly beverly was in the kitchen doing some dishes..I smiled on seeing her as I stood behind her with arms folded to my chest.
“You know we have maids for that” I said almost startling her.
“Derek you know you have to stop walking go on people like that…someone might have a heart attack” she said jokingly….we burst laughed.
“But on a serious note B,we have people that do dishes around here….you dont have to do it”….I said as I came closer and stood beside her….she was like a magnet and I the metal..always attracted to her …as much as I try to stay away from her I just cant.
She smiled like she usually do showing those beautiful dimples in her face.
” I know Derek….with a house like your parents. ….you people probably have a maid for everything…to cut the flowers, to cook, to clean the house and do the laundry and other things,but where I come from…we dont have maids, you do things yourself…” she replied back politely.
I smiled. ….she captivates me with every humble thing she does…I folded up my sleeves an joined her….she looked at me and laughed..”what are you doing” she asked.
“Giving you a hand…you do the washing, I will do the rainsing”I said as I switched on the tap and started rainsing the foamy plates.
Towards the end of doing the dishes I cut my self with a knife.
“Oh my God, did you just cut yourself”…she panicked as she washed the wonder finger in the sink.
“Come on now….its just a small cut”…I protested.
“If we dont treat it….it might be infected…do you guys have a first aid kit” she asked looking really worried.
“Yeah we do… but beverly you are over reacting” I said smiling as I brought out the kit in one of the shelf’s in the kitchen..she opened it and started treating my delicate finger.
“You know, you looked really beautiful tonight….and I didnt know you can bake”I said trying to get her attention….she stopped for a few second and then continued applying the ointment on my injured finger.
“Well thanks for the compliment…but I think its misplaced….your girlfriend needs it more than me…and for the baking stuff…there is alot of things you dont know about me sir”…she said.
It was a blow below the belt….how do I go around the fact that Eva announced tonight that we were dating.
“Am done” she said as she went and washed off her hands in the sink.
I just stood and admired her as she washed her hands…when she made to leave the kitchen I stood infront of her…she was like a drug that am addicted to.
“What ever you think your doing…just dont” she said stepping back…I was about to say something when kelvin walked in on us.
“Everything ok here” he asked as he stared at me suspiciously.
I think he caught me a couple time stealing glances of beverly during the dinner or maybe its just in my head.
“Everything is good bruh” I said as I walked out of the kitchen…I even lost the appetite of eating the cake.
Ever since the dinner at my parents place…i’ve noticed that kelvin now comes to pick beverly from the company every weekdays…unlike how he used to do before.
“Hope you told your boyfriend that you will be running late this week…you know this is festive season and this is a wine company and so will be pretty busy this few months to Christmas…so I hope you pass the message to him” I said as I walked into my office.
“And do tell the shareholders that I would be with them in 20mins time..”..I said to beverly while entering my office.
On entering my office a hand from behind came and closed my eyes….I touched the hand and immediately knew it was Eva.
“Eva what are you doing” I said as I remover her hands.
“I got some good news and I want you to be the first person to hear it….unless you dont want me in your office “…I said feeling sad by my jerk ass reaction.
“Am sorry…I didnt mean to sound like an asshole….ofcus I wanna hear the goodnews I said as I hugged her…she is such a crybaby.
“I got a contract to act as a lead actress in a Hollywood film” she said happily… she has always aspire to be an actress but her wealthy parents wouldnt hear of it…but since she’s come back..she’s been going to one audition to another…trying to get a spot…am so happy for her.
“Really….am so happy for…I know how much acting meant to you….am just glad you will start leaving your dream” I said and hugged her…I might have feelings for beverly but Eva was my one and only best friend.
“But i will be away from you for a month or there about…since the movie will be shoot in ghana” she said sadly.
” its cool honey…all I want is for you to be happy….so when are you guys leaving for ghana”…I asked.
“Next tomorrow”she replied.
“Alright dear…I promise to be your biggest fan”I said as we both laughed.
She left few minutes later…while I myself went to my meeting.
The day Eva was to leave for Ghana…for her acting…I drove her to the airport…and saw her off….on getting to my company I saw kelvins Bently parked at the parking lot…I looked at the time it was 12 noon…so what the heck is he doing here so early…as far as am concerned work hasn’t closed for the day.
I went straight to office…pretending not to know that kelvin was in my company…..but me and beverly gonna have words later….she needs to be reminded that my company aint a love garden..I thought to my self as I walked to my office.
To my greatest suprise kelvin was seated in my office.
“To what do I owe this pleasure” I asked as I went and sat in my chair.
He smiled and looked at me as though he has been planning for this day to come.
“So what can I do for you kelvin” I asked the second time since he ignored the first question.
“Well I came to inform you that I will be travelling to Newyork for a business trip I might stay for a few week”…he said but I had to interrupt him half way…cus I dont get where this is going.
“How is that any concern to me” I asked.
“Well…am not a fool Derek….I know you have your eyes for my beverly…I know you fancy her ..I know you crave her body…I know you have feelings for her even though you are with Eva..so am here to warn you man to man…stay the hell away from her or will regret it” he said as he stood up to go..
“How dare you come into my company, my office to threaten me!!..I shouted…are you out of your damn mind….I will pretend I didnt hear this” I said as I adjusted my tie.
“Oh you dont have to pretend hommie….can you admit that you dont have feelings for her” he asked but I kept silent…I didnt know what to say..
“Thats what I thought….so stay away from her or I will come for you” he said as he turned to leave. ….in hearing this I was mad with anger.
“What disrespect!!!….you walk into my office and starts talking gibberish. ….issuing threats…do you know who I am kelvin…dont you dare mess with…and as for beverly…yes I have feelings for her….I love her with everything that makes me a man….and I will fight for her…because legally she aint your wife…so if u ever try this stunt you pulled here today…I will use all the resourse of my company and bury the new company you wanna build”. I said angrily.
He laughed hysterically..”I promise you after beverly’s intern here, I will make sure you never see her again…you see that appointment you offered her..I will offer her an even better one…A CFO of my fathers company…and ofcus you and I know who she will choose….have a nice day derek”…he said and walked out of my office.
“God damn it” I said as I hit my fist on the wall.
I stayed late at work though I dismissed beverly early…it was obvious she didnt even know about my me and kelvin.
I drove home around 9pm….very tired and my whole body needed some quality sleep and rest…after been sitting and standing all day.
I looked through my side mirror i noticed a particular toyota had been following me at a small pace since I left the company…it was a lonely night and no car was on site.
I hit the gear and increased the speed…it also increased its own…thats when I knew I was actually been followed before I maneuver my way to another lane another car drove infront and blocked me…a group of armed came out of the two car and pointed a gun at me….and immediately it started raining heavily.
They beat me up to stupor ,took my car and left me to die….as rain beat at me.
I didnt know how I survived.
Episode 9 : Secrets and Lies
I just lay their in a pool of blood,helpless,bruised,injured and bleeding from a bullet wound on the shoulder that I got from the armed robbers.
I laid in the middle of the road unconscious as the heavy down pour beat on me till the following morning.
As God may have it no vehicle passed through that road that night…or else it would have been a different story all together.
At around 7am in the morning,a couple who where doing there morning work out,jogging along the road saw me in a pool of blood ran to my rescue…at first sight of my condition they thought I was dead but luckily for me the wife was a doctor…she rushed and checked to see if I had a pulse…miraculously I did..”he still alive…but he’s breathing is faint….we need to rush him to the hospital ASAP.
so the husband brought there car around and carried me to the back seat…and drove off to the nearest hospital.
The husband drove while the wife tended my wound at the back seat…she gave me an injection that made me come to…i was conscious for a few minutes..I saw the face of a beautiful woman in her early thirties dressing my wounds…she smiled at me and said “hi…am doctor winifred…you’ve lost alot of blood…but you gonna be fine…all I need you to do is stay awake for me ok”.
“Thank you” I managed to say as I slipped into oblivion again…though I heard when she was instructing the husband to drive fast..in my mine I said to myself..”doctor’s are awesome”.
“Step on it baby,we are losing him”.
She said sounding really worried for a stranger she doesn’t know.
I was taken to a general hospital and prepped ready for surgery….my parents were called a few minutes later before I was taken into surgery…if I had my way I would have opted to be taken to a more private hospital…because I didnt want the media to get the wind of this and blow it out of proportion but I couldnt do anything in a deathbed…but it was already too late as my news was already all over every news outlet and blogs in Nigeria and Africa as a whole..my muling made the headlines.
I woke up for the first time after the surgery at around 11pm…I looked around the room to get a better knowledge of where I was… i looked at the P.O.P, the drip stand the machines in the room I realised I was in a private room inside the hospital…I looked beside me and saw someone that looked like beverly sleeping beside my bed on a sofa with her head resting on my bed…I smiled….i wanted to call out to her but realised that some tubes were inside my mouth and nose… I thought to myself”what the hell”.
I stretched out and touched her face…she woke up almost immediately…like she was expecting this…”Oh my God…Derek can you see me…can you hear me” she said sounding really happy….she pressed a button around the bed and immediately the doctors and nurses appeared instantly…
“what’s the matter,miss beverly”.the doctor asked while entering the room.
“i think, he’s awake”..she said solemnly trying to fight back some tears escaping her lashes.
The doctors examined me thoroughly as they began to remove all the pipes that aided my respiratory organ….and laid me better on the bed..all I could say was “what happened”…as I looked at all the faces of the medical personnel’s around me….they stared at me in awe.
“Medically speaking its impossible for you to wake up so early….given the extensive brain injury you experienced during the attack…..I mean we weren’t expecting your brain to recover atleast in the next 12 months or so and for you to even remember anyone, it is a medical miracle….but you were able to remember this lady here” the doctor said pointing at beverly..I turned and stared at her water she was actually crying…it melted my heart and at the same time broke my heart that she was like this.
“Why wouldn’t I remember her….she is my wonderful personal assistant” i said…..as they all gasped in awe.
“I will get your parents on the phone…they.
Really need this good news” one of the doctors said….but I objected to it.
“No dont call them…I want them to be suprised when they get here tomorrow seeing me sitting up on the bed”..I said smiling.
“Ok sir”the resident doctor said.
“You need to specially thank this lady here…the head doctor said pointing at beverly…..she belived that you will wake up earlier than schedule…she believed in miracle….even with all the test and diagnosis contracted to everything she believed…she still held on”….the doctor said…
” I will leave you two alone then “…the doctor said and they all left the room.
“Hey”I called out to beverly who was already backing me…..who turned reluctantly….her face was already red with tears.
“Please….you need to stop crying now” I pleaded with her.
“I ca….cant make it stop…I though I lost you….I thought I lost you to all those surgeries that you had to go through…to all those terrible seizures that you went through…who would do this to you”she asked….the more she talked the more tears rolled down her cheeks till she reached her breaking point and wept bitterly….I couldn’t help but cry too…why would any one want me dead….I didnt hurt no body….I wanted so badly to stand up from where I lay….walk up to her …hug her and tell her that everything would be fine…but I couldnt as I just layed there crying.
Immediately she heard me weeping she ran to where I lay..”are you in pain….do you need me to call the doctor “…she asked.
“Please can you sit me up”…I asked her.
“Are you sure” she asked and I nodded.
I sat up on the bed though she used some pillows to aid me…..I brought her close and sat her beside me…I looked into her eyes and wiped off the tears on her face.
“I don’t like seeing you cry….it breaks my heart…so please dont cry again..or else I will join you” I said to her as she chuckled.
“Am famished….do u perhaps bring any food” I asked…..”well of course I did” she said as she went to her bag…brought out a flacks and dished out a plate of jellof rice for the both of us…suprisingly it was still hot..she noticed that I couldn’t eat with my right bandaged hand and of course am not a leftie so she asked if I want her to feed me.
“Do you want me to feed you” she asked as she placed the plate of rice on the glass table there….I nodded like a six year old which made her laugh hysterically.
She brought out a wheelchair that was in the room..set it beside the bed and helped me sit on it…so i can be on the same level as the couch that she was seating on.
She started feeding me the rice one spoon at a time.
“Damn B….you are an amazing cook” I said…
“Thanks” she said as she blushed.
after we finished she started packing her stuff preparing to leave….around 12am.
“Come on B…its too late for you to be walking home in this ungodly hour…beside there are no taxi or Uber available at this hour” I said pleading with her to stay.
“Well…have you forgotten that a car was one of the package of being your proxy…av learned how to drive and beside my apartment is not very far from here” she said still packing.
“I wheeled myself to where she was standing…please….I fought death to be back to you….I don’t want anything bad to happen to you”…i said and on hearing this she stoped and turned to me.
“aren’t you a sweet talker” she said smiling.
As she sat on one of the sofa while we talked about alot of things.
“I dont know if it was a dream or something but I kinda dreamt where I laid on this bed unconscious while you sat in this particular sofa talking to me about something..” I asked while she smiled.
“That wasnt a dream…it happened…that means you heard me…wow” she said sounding really happy.
“So what where you saying” I asked her.
“Well whenever I close from the office I usually come here and debrief you on what happened in the office that particular day” she said…I was in awe of her…I couldn’t love her less.
“So how do you get your self to do that to a man you dont know if he will ever be whole again” I asked sadly but her answer shocked me.
“My mentor is late Hornet Holmes…he was a mind scientist….he always said..’whatever you can see in your mind, you can have it in your hands’…..that our thoughts are things and they are tangible…he also said that ‘we should always give thanks in advance to whatever we want to have or happen in our lives’…so I applied it in your case and it worked….I guess I didnt want to accept the fact that I might not see you again”…she said solemnly. …I just mopped at her in awe.
“I love you beverly” I didnt know when that word came out of my mouth…I mean its been there all along…it just needed a little push to come out..but I dont regret saying it.
“I love you with my body and souls…with everything that made me a man…i couldn’t possibly live without you…”I said as I saw a tear escape her lashes…she stood up immediately trying to wipe it…as she backed me.
“And I know you feel the same….and I know we both are in a relationship where we thought can erase the love we feel for each other….but it cant.. believe me I tried to forget you…to get you off my mind….I actually made love to Eva thinking that that would make me forget you…but you were the first thing I think of whenever I wakeup…” on hearing my sex with Eva she turned to face me.
“Yes I had sex with her…but that didnt change anything in my heart….because you are like the drug am addicted to….I will fight whoever it is just to have you…and I will tell Eva how I feel about you when she gets back…I cant pretend anymore”…I said as I poured my heart to her in tears
She stood there for a moment before running to where I sat on the wheelchairs stooped down and hugged me tight.
“What have you done to me”.she whispered in my ears.

Episode 10 : Emotional Confessions
Beverly left the hospital at around 6am that morning….but not before helping me get a nice shower…she helped me get dressed, wheeled me to my bed and packed her bag to go.
“You know, you can take your bath here if you want…atleast it will save u alot of time to prepare for work” I said…but she laughed at me so hard that I thought for a second if I had a dirt on my face.
“So…whats funny” I asked trying to sound annoyed.
“Sorry I didnt mean to….anyway…taking a bath in a hospital where am not the patient isn’t in my bucket list of the weird I wanna do before the year ends”…she said still laughing.
“You’re not making any sense B” I said.
“What am saying in summary is that….I cant take my bath here because it will be unethical for my person” she said…I smiled to myself and thought “how is she so smart”.
“Can I ask you something” she said as she came and sat beside me.
“Sure, go ahead” I said trying to sit better.
“Why did you make me your PA at your own company…am just a 24 year old undergraduate doing my intern…still yet to defend my course…why didnt you make your sister the your interim CEO…I just wanna know” she asked.
“Age is just a number beverly…I finished my university at 21…got my masters on business administration at 23 and started my company at that same 23…and its only been 4yrs since I opened my company but it has gone to become the best wine producing company in Africa…all am saying is that you are a very smart and intelligent lady….you are good with figures, you always make a very good business decisions….and you have this great leadership quality that makes you stand out among your mates…any company will be glad to have you…and also my sister endorsed it…she not a jealous type if thats what you are asking…she doesnt put emotions when it comes to business…” I said while she looked at me in awe.
“Wow…I Uhmm…I dont know what to say…thank you ” she said solemnly.
“Well no need to thank me….DEREK is lucky to have you…and given the review you showed me from your system since I was away…honestly you have done a pretty excellent job…I couldnt be more proud” I said happily while she blushed.
“One more thing if you dont mind” she said.
“Well I dont, atleast it keeps you here with me” I said while she gave me the very-funny face.
“It looked as though you know something will happen that you has to make my managerial decision that time…because it coincided with your accident” she asked.
“Well….I made that decision because of a trip I was planning to make to the US…thats was gonna last for three months…I Uhmm…I enrolled for a three months course in Havard university” I said.
“And when did you plan to tell me boss” she asked.
“Well ,I was gonna tell you…in a dinner I was planning for the both of us…but kelvin was just everywhere lurking around you like a shadow…so I planned to tell u the morning before the attack”……I said.
“Oh….ok sir…I will take my leave now”…she said and left.
On getting to the door she turned and said “I will come by the evening after am done at the office for review of the days work…plus you gotta have a lot of visitors today more than you did since the attack, so please get some rest”she said with her hand on her waist ,sounding like my mum…I laughed hysterically.
“Yes, ma’am” I said still laughing, while she smiled and out of the room.
I sat in the bed as the nurses put me on a new drip bag,while the doctors removed the POP from my hands and left leg.
“Your injury have healed considerably well from the previous weeks,so I think its time to take off these” he said as he removed all the POP.
“Its still not safe to walk on your own without assistance, so one of our nurses will be bringing for you a walking aid” the doctors said.
“I feel pretty well already, so when am I getting discharged” I asked the doctor.
“Well given that ur vitals and everyother thing has improved considerably ,you will be discharged probably during the weekend” the chief doctor said as they all left few minutes later.
I lay my back on the bed resting, alot of things were going on in my mind like the fact that I cant seem to remember what happened to me the night of my attack….at some point I thought to my self that its even better to forget as its a traumatic experience that I dont wanna remember no more..
I was still thinking about it when my parents barged in with three men in police uniform and a white man on suit.
“Oh my beautiful boy,thank you jesus”..my mum screamed as hot tears ran down her face, she couldnt believe her eyes”.
I tried to get up and sit up when my sister came over and gave me a hand.
“Mom, dont cry,ok come and sis beside me” I said reaching out my hand to her as she held it and came around and gave me some motherly luv, so did my dad and sister.
“Am so happy, that you are ok, bigbrother” isable said.
“Am happy to be alive too” I said smiling.
“Wow, this is indeed a miracle,they even removed the POP,so that means you can now walk” my dad said as he couldnt hide his joy and happiness in his tone.
“Yes, but with an aid for the mean time”.I said…we were still talking when the doctor walked in.
“Oh thank you so much doctor Ferdinand ,for all your hospital did for my boy,am for ever grateful” my dad said..he is always grateful ,one of the things I love about him.
“Oh senator Nzediego ,no need for that, it is what we pride our self in doing and besides your son here is a fighter,but at the end of the day God took absolute control” the doctor said.
“Exactly” my mum cut in.
